Did Paul Ryan say he was ‘Satan incarnate?’ Yes, old blue eyes read it about himself, and oddly it wounded him. ‘Now This News’ persuaded politicians to read mean tweets about themselves. The format is much like the Jimmy Kimmel segment where celebrities read very mean tweets from nasty non-fans. If you’ve seen celebrities reading brutal tweets, for the most part they take rude and obnoxious tweets with equanimity, and sometimes the flying finger of ill-wishes. This is understandable as the tweets are often very personal and unfair to put it mildly.
It should be a piece of cake for politicians to read tweets about themselves, right? By vocation they curry favor from some, and face intense dislike from others. However, judging from their reactions, it seems that their staff deletes all but the sunniest tweets and email, leaving them unprepared for the slightest negativity. Surely Paul Ryan knew his phony photo shoot in a homeless shelter went over badly? I’d assumed politicians would be clad in rhino hide. Instead, they seem to harbor hearts of gushy marshmallow fluff, and just want you to love them!
